mentorship programs

Schools are now open. Children who are at home which is not very safe for them, there are temptations of drug abuse, sexual exploitation, peer influence among others, they need people to mentor them and give them direction and also answer their questions, we will do this in three ways; boys club, girls club and home visits. Boys Club

Boys are very energetic we are currently involving them in sporting activities we have two football teams under the age 12 and under the age of 14. They play twice a week during this time we find time talk and share the challenges that they go through. We will be

Girls Club

Girls have very sensitive issues, cases of teenage pregnancies are very high in Nairobi, they are lured in early sexual activities because they lack information, and they also do not have people to equip them with the correct information. My wife Maureen who was born and brought up in slums has vast experience on matters pertaining girl child. She will be having sessions with the them once a week to address the challenges they are facing, give them correct information, taking to them about menstruation period and giving them sanitary towels, how to clean themselves, organizing sessions with girls who made in life from slum areas to inspire our girls and also cooking lessons. We will join hands to make this successful.

Home Visits

We will be following up with the parents and children at home to make sure that they are well behaved at home and also share any other challenges that they may be facing. The main purpose for the visits is to listen to them and also encourage them as we give hope to the hopeless. We realized that a lot of people opt to committing suicide because they don’t have people to share with what they are going through; Covid 19 has made life miserable to most people. We also are excited to pray together with the families.

Slum frames film & acting classes

Due to Covid -19 implications we as Oasis of Hope collaborated with Matshepo Moving Picture Company based out in Kenya, decided to engage the children in Mathare in acting, photography and film production classes under the Slum Frames project. The main aim is to impact them with skills on video making, acting and photography. as well as enhancing their communication skills. The class started with eighty the number later reduced to fifty children from Mathare slums. We have a team of seven volunteers who space three days every week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) to train the kids on the above subject.
